Birkit and Muzaffer were captivated by tango around 1990 (he a little earlier than her) and in 1992 they slowly came under the spell of each other. Two years later, they founded their own school ‘Tango La Zapada’ and have been inseparable ever since.
Tango took them all over the Netherlands and beyond. For years, they spent many weekends travelling through Europe in particular, for workshops, performances and with shows. After many regular teaching evenings in various places in the Netherlands, including longer periods in Eindhoven, they made Utrecht their home in 2001.
Their tango is modern sometimes experimental, but always with a traditional starting point. They love the contrasts and diversity of tango and enjoy dancing virtuoso, fast and rhythmic as much as subdued, controlled and powerful in slow motion. Always exploring, always looking for the limits of dance, without abandoning the fundamentals of tango.
Years of trying out, figuring out, analysing and learning from and with various maestros brought them the insights for the solid basic technique they use in their own dance and certainly in their lessons. Their analytical eye is evident in the lessons, where they manage to get participants on the right track with the smallest of clues. As teachers, they transfer their love and knowledge of tango to the students. They inspire and motivate and do so with a good dose of humour. They want to get the best out of you and also look for boundaries within your possibilities and wishes. So that you can develop your qualities and enjoyment in the best possible way.
On Friday 11 October, they will give a free ‘Surprising Twists’ workshop. This workshop, like the anniversary pre party afterwards, is free for all participants. In addition, they will give a whirlwind show during the pre party.
