Theme Lab: Cross, improvisation & role reversal
Karen van der Stappen is organising Crossroads @ Scala again on 24 November, after all the positive reactions to this new event last fourth Sunday of October. This ‘intersection’ of Salon and knowledge exchange will provide 6 hours of dance fun and, to increase the fun, we will also eat together what we bring or order (pizza) at the bar. More information on the format Crossroads @ Scala here.
We start at 2pm with the lab which this time has ‘Cross, improvisation & role reversal’ as its theme. Together with Karen, we will start with a warm-up after which a number of exercises will be covered such as:
- warming up
- balance and ochos
- cross left right front and back
- uncrossing
- cross and voleo
- cross and giro
- U-turn behind cross l/r
- giro linear & circular go and turn
- decorations
- fitness every day
Furthermore, we pay attention to the following tango techniques :
- creation of delays with cross pass as end point
- mirroring cross
- cross (behind) instead of ochos
- cross and parallel back and forth
- cross and soltadas plus smart signals for both
We will practise all this while dancing to music from a carefully curated playlist. At 4pm, DJ Isaac will start playing beautiful dance music for us, traditional tango music interspersed with neo and ‘non’ tango and we will enjoy our Milonga for at least another 4 hours.
For more than 15 years, Dj Isaac has been one of Tipo Tango’s regular and much-loved DJs. Looking for a warm dance atmosphere, he plays the classic orchestras from the ‘golden age’ of Argentine tango. He makes forays into non-tango where the tango feeling is not lost. He feels very well what suits the dancers and the time of day! Personally, he likes beautiful tangos, fast waltzes and fat milongas.
Total duration of lab & salon from 14 – 20 hours
Entrance fee 7.50 euros
