Crossroads @ Scala 26 Januar 2025

Theme Lab: Improvisation, voleo & role reversal

On 26 January 2025, the first fourth Sunday of this new year, Karen van der Stappen is organising another edition of Crossroads @ Scala. This ‘intersection’ of Salon and knowledge exchange will provide 7 hours of dancing fun and, to increase the fun, we will also eat together what we bring or order (pizza or cheese fondue) at the bar. For more information on the format Crossroads @ Scala here.

We start at 2pm with the lab which this time has ‘Improvisation, voleo & role reversal’ as its theme. Together with Karen, we start with a warm-up after which a number of exercises such as:
– combo taichi and tango techniques
– balance and 3 kinds of ochos
– technique voleo
– U-turn behind cross
– giro linear & circular going and turning
– decorations
– fitness every day

Furthermore, we pay attention to the following tango techniques
– as always focus on role reversal and 4 moments lead/follow/pizza point
– concept rebounce voleo
– linear and pivot
– high and low
– butterfly voleo
– voleo as decoration (which one is super annoying for the leader !?!)
– soltado variant 2
 – smart signals for both from the sandwich

We will practise all this while dancing to the music of a carefully compiled playlist. At 4pm, DJ Nettie will start playing beautiful dance music for us, traditional tango music interspersed with neo and ‘non’ tango and we will enjoy our Milonga for at least another 5 hours.

Deejay Nettie, is no stranger to the Tango world.
Together with her husband Wolter, they have organised several festivals over the past 20 years such as: Biezenmortel tango festival; Texel tango festival; Tango in the Druiventros, and Tango por los Chicos (benefit for the street children of Buenos Aires).
Nettie and Wolter have also provided regular classes in the Brabant countryside for 20 years under the name Tango School El Fuego.
Deejaying is Nettie’s great passion and although she almost always plays traditional dances, she does not shy away from neo tango and/or other movements.
Because Nettie spins exclusively with CDs, she has no fixed playlists and builds her salon around the guests/dancers. In addition to traditional music, her collection contains enough material also to provide this salon with beautiful music.

Food
Of course, you can bring your own food (to share or not). You can also order a pizza or cheese fondue with bread and raw vegetables.

Total duration of lab & salon from 14 – 21 hours
Entrance fee 7.50 euros
